Nichelle?

I realized that my collecting preference has changed. I am now trying to get JUST a sample of each headmold from the Barbie line. I prefer those with not so big eyes and black hair, if possible. In case, I find a better (this is subjective) version, I'll dispose the older one. My fave head molds (Lea/Kayla, Oriental, Mbili, Goddess etc) are of course exempted from that rule.

Now, I can finally say that my fixation on getting a doll with a Nichelle head mold has ended. I'm happy with my doll. The thing is, I don't know her. Can anybody identify her for me? I'm not sure if she was redressed but her earrings match her dress. I did pour boiling water on her hair to flatten it. I think a kid used to tie it in a ponytail so she was a mess when I got it.

Any info about this doll will be appreciated. :)

The Nichelle is a Pretty in Plaid Barbie.

Niel, she could be a Butterfly Art Christie, but I think your doll has brown eyes. The BA Christie seems to have greenish eyes.

My guess is that your doll is one of the more recent Barbies like Hip 2 Be Square, only not that particular doll. The yellow dress looks familar. I'll check through my Augustyniak (sp) to see if I can find her. A 1990s doll, I think.

It appears to be the same as these two--maybe just the AA version of the Mackie face?

Maybe it's the AA version of this doll? I don't know what it's called, but my daughter has it.

Thanks everyone for the input! =D

Hi Shani-Boy. I think you could be right. A Flickr member has the same opinion. :)

Hi Dana. Mine doesn't have a any tattoo or body art. Butterfly Art Christie is a beautiful doll, one of the best for me using this mold. I'm glad mine look a little like her. :)

Thanks for the links Jane Dough. The last one, in green is the Pretty in Plaid Barbie. Mine used to have that same hairstyle. You're the third who said that so I guess you all might be right. :)

I went searching for Pretty in Plaid Barbie at Flickr and found that she has different versions (blond, red head, brunette etc) and they have different color schemes for the face and dresses. Cute!!!

Sadly I haven't seen a photo of an AA version except for mine of course... There was one that tagged her doll with Nichelle face mold as Pretty in Plaid but she has a different facial screening... darker lips if I remember correctly (will post link later if I can) and different hair too. so that got me confused... :)

Congrats on the doll. Whoever she is! She is one of my favorite faces too! I know you can curl with a boil perm,I didn't know you could straighten with one. How does that work?

Niel Camhalla said...

Thanks Ms Leo! :)

Straightening doll hair with boiling water

works in the same way as perming. The

general idea is that doll hair when cooled

(more or less) will retain its shaped from

when it was heated if left untouched.

So if you pour boiling water over the doll

head this will soften the curl or it can

straighten it (if it was a soft curl to

begin with). I usually alternate combing

and pouring boiling water. After the wet

hair is at the desired "straightness", I

pour cold water over the hair to set it. I

don't comb it again until it has dried.

I hope that helps. :)

Thanks Shani-boy. You have been most informative and helpful :)

Yay, Shani-boy! Three cheers for your deductive work. I don't recall seeing the AA version of that particular Barbie. I had thought that the AA Pretty in Plaid Barbie used the Asha face sculpt (open mouth).

Neil, yours has a lovely face and more realistic eye coloring. Anyway, I am glad that you have a definitive answer. Happy collecting ;-D

I'm late on this but I have this lovely lady. My doll was repainted and I call her Coffy now. I have to pull her out and do a blog on the Nichelle face :O)
